Happy Birthday

Another year has passed and again it is time to celebrate my birthday. As I think back on the life I have lived and the things I have learned I know that I can look forward to the future with joy and expectation and I look back with no regrets.

As I look at my reflection in the mirror, I see a few more laugh lines, but I have decided that the only lines on my face that count as wrinkles are the lines caused by frowning. A line on my face that is caused from smiling and laughing will just add character and beauty. I will rejoice in those lines. They are the marks of a life well lived.

I have learned to let go of the things I cannot control. I cannot control others opinion of me yet I can control what is really important. I can control what I think of myself. When I treat myself with dignity, love and respect, my life works. I can do anything when I feel good about myself.

From now on I will indulge in life’s pleasures with joy and abandon. For too long, and too many times, I felt guilty about indulgences like desserts. I didn’t weigh any more the next day, yet I let that moment of joy and pleasure get away because I was a slave to the scale. No more, from now on, if I indulge, I will enjoy! I will not deny myself any of life’s pleasures for absurd reasons, and trying to please an inanimate object such as a scale is absurd!

From now on I will do my part to bring out the best in others. I want to be one of those people that make other people feel good about themselves. I will look for and see the best in them and in turn they will see it within themselves. I will see beauty and the best of everyone and everything.

Today and everyday I will laugh and dance and sing. I will create Joy in my life. I will enjoy the times of my life whatever it brings And as I age and on my next birthday, I will remember that I measure my life in moments of Joy rather than the passing of years.

Happy Birthday to Me!

Losing the Poetical Elements of Life!

In our world of utility it is so easy to overlook the common beauties of life. Years ago I rescued a wonderful book from the trash can that a librarian, of all people, decided was “useless.” True, it was old and tattered. It was titled “One Thousand Beautiful Things.” I took the book home and became lost in its wonderful sentiments. What so surp ...

On Self Transformation

Have you ever wondered why it is easier for most people to submit and indulge in negative feelings rather than experience positive emotions even though we know we feel better when we are positive about life? I mean, it is so easy to be angry at people who annoy us or treat us badly, to be frustrated in situations not to our liking, to be jealous ...

Your Inner Voice Has All The Answers

Each of us has an inner voice that guides, directs, prods and helps us as we travel the many highways and crossroads of our lives. Now I ask you would an all loving God put enough sense in squirrels to gather nuts, birds to fly south and fish to swim upstream and not put something at least comparable in humans? The answer is yes he would. ...

We are the Creators

It's time to move to the next step in our evolution. We had to stay for a while in primary school to learn how to use our innate tools: imagination, calculation, storytelling, reaction. Not all our teachers understood well how to take care of us but here we are, alive and impatient to create our GREAT STORY...Until now, we were very vuln ...

Generosity

We'd been walking all day and it was raining. All the road signs were in Serbian. It was evening - and we were lost, cold, hungry and soaked. The war was still a few years away, but there was little to be cheerful about. Then out of the gloom an old man stepped into the road and, raising his eyebrows inquisitively, asked "hotel?".Lo ...

To Love is to Forgive

I'm convinced that our mental and physical health depends on our attitude toward others and how we treat them. Included in this is forgiveness. In fact, if I could choose the one gift from God that I personally need to have and to give, it would be the gift of forgiveness both for others and for myself (by the way, have you forgiven yourself, de ...

In My Father's Garage

In my father’s garage, he built me many things. What stands out the most, is the help and advice he gave my brothers and I. Especially when it came to building soap box derby racers. He was real good at that. He always built our racers with little help--if any, from us.The soap box derby officials made it clear. Their rule book stated, “a ...

Everyday is a Gift, Open and Enjoy It

There is a bottle of perfume sitting on my dresser that I was given when I was ten years old! As you can tell I have pack rat tendencies! For me that pattern started as a young child. I could never bear to throw things away. There was more to it than not wanting to throw things away. I loved the feeling I had when I would receive something new, ...

Kitten Development From Birth To 12 Weeks Of Age

Birth- Kittens normally weigh in between 3.0 and 3.5 oz. Smaller kittens have lower chances at survival. And I have found larger Persian kittens tend to also have difficult surviving. I believe it is related to the moms have more difficult birthing a larger kitten with a larger head, and that cuts off oxygen level to the brain- making them loss ...

Symphony of Human Dynamics

Differences are inevitable when two or more persons come together. It would be pointless and boring for two or more to come together if there are no differences. Some differences are pleasant; others can be disconcerting. Differences can accelerate to disharmony, conflict, competition, or war. While a reasonable amount of conflict can be c ...

Spiritual Poems - Why Read Them?

What makes spiritual poems different from other spiritual writings? Poetry has a way of pointing more directly at reality, rather than just defining it. It uses words as tools for the transmission of experience. Spiritual poetry then, is more about enlightenment than belief. Here is a classic example from the Tao Te Ching:Empty your mind ...

Getting a Book Signing: Do's and Don'ts

Just after I published my first novel, I sat in the parking lot on three separate occasions trying to gather the courage to go into the local Borders to set up a signing. At the time, I was a first-time author, self-published, new to the community and with only my personality and a smile to guide me. Over time, I managed to hold many successful ...

Don't Ask Your Doctor

Perhaps I should ask my doctor if there is a drug to take to combat frustration from seeing so many drug ads. You know the ones I'm talking about. They always start out with a list of questions. Then they tell you that a new drug might be just the thing for you--all you have to do is ask your doctor. Here's my tongue-in-cheek riff on tho ...

The Privilege of Praise

To praise someone is to extol, glorify or honor him/her. One definition that really sums it up for me is: “to go into raptures over.” I love that! Doesn’t that accurately describe a state of exuberance? Can you see yourself jumping up and down, screaming and laughing over some great feat your favorite team has performed or the prize you’ve won? ...

Not a Word of Reproach!
